Sheffield United 0 – 3 Arsenal

// October 31st, 2007 // No Comments » // Arsenal FC

Eduardo da Silva scored twice, including a thunderous opening goal just eight minutes in, and Denilison added the icing to the cake, as Arsenal beat Sheffield United 3-0 at Bramall Lane this Halloween night. The win means the Gunners are now in the pot for the quarter-final draw which takes place on Saturday. Also this Saturday is the “biggest game of the season so far”, as an in-form Manchester United pay a visit to the Grove.

Giants 13 – 10 Dolphins

// October 28th, 2007 // No Comments » // New York Giants

On the muddy pitch at Wembley, the Giants won the first NFL regular season game to be held in Europe, defeating the winless Dolphins 13-10. The conditions were horrible, and the Giants just barely came away with the win, but in the end, the G-men are heading into the bye week at 6-2.

It’s the same record they had last season at this point. Question is, will they go 2-6 like last year, or will their fortunes change. Things get put to the test right away next weekend when the Cowboys come the Meadowlands.

Liverpool 1 – 1 Arsenal

// October 28th, 2007 // No Comments » // Arsenal FC

Cesc Fabregas’s 80th minute strike cancelled out a Steven Gerrard 6th minute free-kick goal to earn the Gunners a point at Anfield earlier today. Arsenal dominated long stretches of this match, and could have come away with all three points. Regardless, it was a great performance, and sets up a huge game against ManUre at the Grove on Saturday.

Spoon & The Shins @ Merriweather

I’ve been waiting for a few days to post about this incredible double-bill, in the hopes that some setlists would POP up online. Unfortunately, nothing’s cropped up, but I did find a great review by a blogger down in DC who was at the show.

She’s pretty much on the money. The crowd was very young, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but none of them knew Spoon, which is a bad thing. In fact, Joel, who loves the Shins, thought that Spoon were better that night. I’m more inclined to think that they were both equally excellent.

Arsenal 7 – 0 Slavia Prague

// October 23rd, 2007 // No Comments » // Arsenal FC

An absolutely amazing European night at the Grove, capped off by Theo Walcott scoring twice in his first Champions League start. Cesc Fabregas added two, his first coming four minutes into the game. Alex Hleb also scored twice, but one of his goals was deemed an own goal by the Slavia defender. Nicklas Bendtner rounded out the scoring late to add the PAT. So, Arsenal win by a touchdown, and the confidence is oozing prior to this Sunday’s huge match at Anfield between the only remaining unbeaten teams in the League. Liverpool needed help to win against Everton last week, but derby matches are always a bad indication of a team’s form.

Due to the time change in the UK this Saturday night, the kickoff isn’t until Noon ET on Sunday. The match will be broadcast live here in the US on Fox Soccer Channel.

Giants 33 – 15 49ers

Well, the good roll continues as the Giants easily defeated the 49ers this afternoon. It wasn’t on TV, so that’s all I know about it. The next game, against the Dolphins in London, will be on TV, so next week’s post should be a bit more substantial.
