Arsenal 3 – 0 Newcastle

// January 30th, 2008 // No Comments » // Arsenal FC

No, it’s not deja vu all over again. Indeed, thanks to goals by Adebayor, Flamini (sick goal too), and Cesc, the Gunners beat Newcastle 3-0 for the second time in three days.

Newcastle never really threatened, and to be fair, the Gunners could have been two or three up by halftime.

Mathieu Flamini was the outstanding player last night, setting up one goal and scoring another. The goal he scored was an absolute screamer into the upper 90 from about 30 yards out. A definite goal-of-the-season candidate to be sure.

Otherwise, the rest of the team weren’t really tested. Adebayor, like the song says, “Give him the ball, and he will score”. As for Cesc, well, it’s nice that he’s broken the duck. Perhaps now that he’s not thinking about it all the time, he’ll return to scoring a bit more regularly.

Saturday sees us travel to Man City. The Citizens are struggling as of late, so perhaps this is the best possible time to make this visit. Kickoff is an early one – 7:45 AM on the east coast, and the match is being broadcast live in the US on Setanta USA.

Arsenal 3 – 0 Newcastle

Putting the abomination that was a 5-1 loss to Spurs behind them, Arsenal had a lot to prove when they played Newcastle in the fourth round of the FA Cup earlier today.

Under new boss Kevin Keegan, Newcastle were a much more attacking side, and actually had the better of the chances early on. However, Arsenal dominated the majority of the match, and after a scoreless first half, put three past the Magpies in the second half to advance to the fifth round.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored a brace, while Nicky Butt added an own goal to make it 3-0 to the Gunners and job done.

The same two teams meet on Tuesday in the league. It’ll be interesting to see if the same tactics are trotted out by both managers. Somehow, I doubt it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DORIS!

Fulham 0 – 3 Arsenal

A relatively easy win at the Cottage today as two first-half headed goals by Emmanuel Adebayor and a 80th minute volley by Tomas Rosicky paced the Gunners to a 3-0 win away at Fulham earlier today.

Have to run out to help Tye and Dale move some furniture, so I’m afraid that’s all I have to time to post right now.
