The Re-birth Of A Nation

// January 20th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Adventure and Soccer

And so it begins. The world is a much different place than what it was eight years ago, and most for the worse. Let’s hope that this moment marks the beginning of a new era not just politically, but of a renewal of the commitment to champion the greatest ideals of humanity as well.

He’s Gone

Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him.
Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head.

Now he’s gone, now he’s gone, Lord he’s gone, he’s gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin’ down the track
He’s gone, gone, nothin’s gonna bring him back…He’s gone.

Nine mile skid on a ten mile ride, hot as a pistol but cool inside.
Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile,
Nothin’ left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!

Now he’s gone, now he’s gone Lord he’s gone, he’s gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin’ down the track
He’s gone, gone, nothin’s gonna bring him back…He’s gone.

Goin’ where the wind don’t blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.
Lost one round but the price wasn’t anything,
A knife in the back and more of the same.

Same old, rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb,
You know better but I know him.
Like I told you, what I said,
Steal your face right off your head.

Now he’s gone, now he’s gone Lord he’s gone, he’s gone.
Like a steam locomotive, rollin’ down the track
He’s gone, gone, nothin’s gonna bring him back…He’s gone.

Ooh, nothin’s gonna bring him back.

“Get On Your Boots”, the first single from U2’s upcoming album, “No Line On The Horizon” has been released today, although I haven’t been able to download it from iTunes yet. Not to worry though, because you can stream it on U2.com right now!

Shout it from the fricken rooftops because it kicks major ass!

2009 or 1994?

A week after the Dead announced their spring tour, Phish have today announced, via skywriters (see YouTube clip above), that they too will be touring in 2009. Speculation has been rampant since the announcement back in October of a three night run at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum this March that there would be more to the story. Today’s announcement has confirmed those suspicions, however, there are no shows on the West Coast, nor was there the much rumored Bonnarroo headlining gig. That could still happen, as the band don’t currently have any shows scheduled between June 9 and the 16th, leaving the Bonnarroo dates of June 11 – 15 wide open.

Mailorder for the tour, which begins at New York’s Jones Beach on June 4, opened today @ Phish.com, and runs through the 17th. Public on-sale starts January 30th.

Dead to tour in ‘09, Mike goes digging for his St. Stephen shirt…

It seems that my post on New Year’s eve was especially appropriate. At the stroke of midnight on January 1, out in California, the remaining members of the Grateful Dead, now known as “The Dead”, announced that they will be hitting the road this spring, stopping in sixteen cities over nineteen dates. The tour includes stops in DC, two nights in Philly, two nights at the Meadowlands, and a night each at MSG and at the Mausoleum out on Long Island, just to name a few.

Time to break out the Birks. Oh wait, I wear those all the time anyway…
